The two tickets feature, respectively, Chinese calligraphic art by former MTR architect Abe Au, and an illustrated design of the character "Horse" created by renowned local paper artist Mr Joe Wong Man Hon. With these tickets, passengers can enjoy unlimited domestic rides* on MTR on the first day of the Year of the Horse (17 February 2026).
Since 2023, MTR has invited Mr Abe Au to create original calligraphy for the Lunar New Year ticket series. With his iconic style, Mr Au has written the Chinese character "Horse" for this year's set. His brushwork has long become part of Hong Kong’s visual heartbeat – his iconic station name calligraphy, seen across platforms, embodies the very soul of MTR station art.
Echoing Mr Au's calligraphic style, renowned local paper artist Mr Joe Wong Man Hon was invited to create an illustrated design. Cloaked in glowing shades of red, symbolising good fortune in full bloom, Mr Wong's horse sports a luxurious mane and a graceful tail, both sparkling with movement and strength. The artist has also subtly woven in auspicious flowers: peach blossoms (welcoming spring), plum blossoms (heralding renewal) and peonies (flowers of prosperity). Layered with meaning and fine detail, the design wishes everyone a year of flourishing luck and success.
The two-ticket Year of the Horse ticket set comes comes with 10 red packets. May this keepsake – uniting two homegrown artistic voices – accompany you on every journey, carrying good fortune aboard as you ride into a new year filled with colour, joy and promise.
*Each ticket is valid for unlimited domestic journeys on the MTR, Light Rail, MTR Bus and MTR Feeder Bus on the first day of the Year of the Horse on 17 February 2026 (except Airport Express, High Speed Rail, East Rail Line First Class, journeys to or from Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau and Racecourse stations). If this ticket is used to exit at Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau stations, it will be considered a violation of the ticket's terms and conditions of issue. The passenger will be required to pay an additional single journey fare from the entry station to Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau station, and the ticket will be returned to the passenger for use on the next eligible journey. If the ticket becomes invalid, it must be replaced at an MTR Customer Service Centre on 17 February 2026 (excluding Airport Express, High Speed Rail, Light Rail, Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau, Racecourse, Hin Keng, Kai Tak, Sung Wong Toi and To Kwa Wan stations).
