As an important mode of transport in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai, the Light Rail plays a key role in connecting the community. It also happens to be Hong Kong’s only street-level railway system served entirely by single-deck vehicles. Since it began serving the Northwestern New Territories 36 years ago, the Light Rail fleet has continued to expand and improve. Over the years, five generations of Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) have been introduced to the fleet to enhance the passenger experience.
The mini diecast train is based on the first-generation LRV that underwent refurbishment between 2011 and 2013, which is still in service today. The refurbished LRV Phase I has been painted white with simple green and purple lines. All seats have also been reconfigured to become front facing.
The mini diecast train is based on the retired red, blue and yellow LRVs Phase II. On the mini diecast train, the destination indicator shows Route 506, which in real life has been replaced by bus service. The miniature also carries the logo of KCR to further evoke nostalgia.
